Professional Development & Training (PDT):
Bespoke Programmes for Schools and Education Services

Children spend half their waking hours in school and teachers are often the first people to identify concerns about children or the first people children may tell about their experience of abuse. (Baginsky. M. "Learning to Protect" NSPCC 2003). Hannan Consultancy Ltd (HCL) is well positioned to deliver PDT and INSET Days tailored specifically to your particular educational environment, combining in-depth understanding of the needs and characteristics of Schools and Education Services, together with our extensive experience of management and consultancy work in safeguarding children, across the independent, voluntary and statutory sectors. We provide bespoke programmes for:

  • School Governors and Trustees
  • Heads and Deputy Heads
  • Designated Teachers
  • Newly Qualified Teachers
  • Boarding Staff
  • Heads of Houses
  • School Nurses
  • SENCOS
  • Nursery Staff
  • Foundation Stage Co-Ordinators
  • Care Staff
  • PSHE Co-Ordinators
  • Whole School Events for all Staff & Volunteers

Research and best practice evidence highlights that pupil performance and well-being go hand in hand. The Education Act 2002 places a new duty upon schools, including Independent Schools to safeguard and promote the welfare of their pupils. In addition, the new inspection arrangements for schools will in future cover the contribution schools make to pupil well-being.

HCL provides practical guidance to help schools take a holistic approach to safeguarding and promoting pupil's welfare within the broader context of key areas such as citizenship and pastoral care; anti-bullying; behaviour management; promoting health (including sexual health and psychological well being); social inclusion; school security; data protection and Information Technology. We provide practical help to support schools to be more clear and confident about their contribution to developing and sustaining effective inter-agency working and collaboration.

Employers are responsible for ensuring that staff are confident and competent to carry out their safeguarding responsibilities. Whilst PDT opportunities cannot be expected to prepare all staff for every eventuality, HCL programmes will help equip staff to properly safeguard and promote pupil's welfare, according to their role and responsibilities.

In our experience learning outcomes, are best achieved by adopting an adult learning style which values participant's experience and provides a wide range of methods to facilitate participative learning. Our PDT programmes are continuously updated in the light of legislative changes, research and best practice developments.
